Antidote for Anxiety

According to some contemporary writers the period in which we live, despite its great scientific, technological, and sociological progress, is likely to be recorded in history as an age of anxiety. It seems paradoxical that in affluent societies many individuals find themselves experiencing a fundamental sense of insecurity, although they have good jobs, fine homes, insurance and retirement programs, and all that goes with a prosperous way of living. Without that inner concord which comes from an understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him nothing within human experience can be wholly satisfactory.

For anyone who longs for peace of mind and freedom from anxiety Christian Science provides the perfect answer. Mrs. Eddy states, "Spiritual living and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace which comes from an all-absorbing spiritual love." Science and Health, p. 264; If we are looking to material sources for our happiness and security, our efforts are unlikely to produce the desired results. We cannot find peace in matter or in material conditions. Only by living selflessly, in accordance with divine law, the force of good, can we achieve that state of mind wherein we reflect the unruffled tranquillity of divine Love.

The book of James states, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." James 1:17; The Christian Scientist knows that all thoughts which emanate from his loving Father, divine Mind, are veritable good and perfect gifts from above, and he utilizes these angel thoughts. He allows them to fill his consciousness so that anxiety-producing suggestions are dispelled.
