KINDNESS AT THE CROSS
Mark 15:36
Who was he—this eager one
running to hold the saturated sponge
to Jesus' thirsting lips?
"Let alone; let us see," he said,
"whether Elias will come to take him down."
That could have been a way—
logical enough—except
Elias had already dealt with this.
In the white light of transfiguration
Moses and he and Jesus talked it over.
Nevertheless,
here was at least simple token
of unity of God and Son unbroken—
the clear kind thought of this anonymous one
spoken in the last word Jesus heard
before the resurrection.
