Four summers ago I was involved in an incident which clearly showed me the truth in Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 489 of Science and Health, "If the Science of Life were understood, it would be found that the senses of Mind are never lost and that matter has no sensation."

I was attending an informal high school graduation party, and while playing a game of volleyball, I suddenly received a sharp blow in my left eye. I lost all sense of balance and fell to the ground with a great deal of pain in my eye. My mother was inside the house with some other adults, and she came out quickly and began to declare the truth to me. We both prayed to understand that God does not know accidents and that accidents could not, therefore, be any part of His creation. My mother then helped me inside the house, where it would be a little more quiet. The eyeball seemed to be cut open quite severely, and as I washed it out while looking in the mirror, I realized that I could see nothing with that eye.

I am most happy and grateful to say that no sense of fear crept into my consciousness, and my mother and I sat down quietly and continued to pray. Within about five minutes all sight was restored. The pain remained, so I thought it best to leave the party. I fell asleep soon after I got home, but my mother continued to give me treatment through prayer.
