Like Job, I can say, "I know that my redeemer liveth" (19:25); but it took many years of growth in understanding before I truly realized it.
As a small child, I had a trustful faith in God. At six years of age I fell ill with an alarming case of diphtheria and was placed under an oxygen tent. My parents, the doctor, and nurse were quite concerned about my condition, but I had faith that God was caring for me; and I was healed.
When I was eleven or twelve, I began asking our pastor and my Sunday School teacher many questions concerning the two creations recorded in Genesis. I asked also how Jesus healed all kinds of diseases. They always told me that we have to believe even if we do not understand; and, of course, this left me quite confused.
