Christian Science and the Business World

There is no area of human activity more fundamental to a free society than the business world. It is a world we all live in. We use its terminology and processes. We work. We save. We buy. We sell. We invest. We profit. Christian Science teaches us to translate this world of business into the realm of spiritual values, into the commerce of intelligent, useful creative ideas whose origin is the divine Mind, God.

Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, gives us a basis for doing this in her references to God as Principle. In the great textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, she says, "God is the Principle of man and man is the idea of God." Science and Health, p. 476; The fundamental qualities of Principle, therefore, must be native to man. Integrity, purity, clearsightedness, loving sincerity, these spiritual characteristics constitute one's genuine nature. Through the application of Christian Science they can become one's moral guide in the business world.

The business standard of Christian Science is an undeviating one of Principle, humanly expressed in honesty, right ethics, and rectitude. No one is exempt from the daily task of serving his Maker. We are about our Father's business, as was our Way-shower Christ Jesus, when we are minding our own business of expressing God, maintaining our genuine spirituality, which is our only true substance.
