Some years before marrying my father, my mother was suffering from heart trouble, insomnia, neuralgia, and paralysis of the bowels. Five physicians had given her less than a year to live. In response to the kindly interest of a neighbor my mother accepted an invitation to visit a Christian Science practitioner and was healed of all the foregoing afflictions during one visit. After this my mother became a sincere student of Science, and I have had the help of this glorious revelation all my life.

On one occasion my face was severely injured in an accident in the schoolyard. While I had to be helped home, at no time did I lose consciousness; and I was able to declare truths of God and man to myself on the long streetcar ride home. When we arrived, my mother immediately began to declare the truth aloud to me. She continued to work prayerfully, and I returned to school after a week. Although my front teeth had to be replaced, the healing of a broken nose and lacerated tongue and mouth was otherwise complete in every way.

By gaining a clearer understanding of the true meaning of substance, I was healed of a double hernia.
