Only One Pressure

The false beliefs that accompany a material sense of existence often build up pressures that to the human mind seem inescapable. Some of the beliefs that may combine with a limited sense of time to cause intolerable pressure are: the need to earn a living or to advance in business; the urge to make more money; the desire to get good grades in school; the discharge of duty to loved ones.

It is interesting for the student of Christian Science to note that the revelator of this Science, Mrs. Eddy, whose pure spirituality enabled her to hear and to transcribe the Word of God, uses this word "pressure" only once in all of her writings, when she states this rule: "Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate." Science and Health, p. 451; In Christian Science the only pressure recognized is the uplifting pressure of spiritual discernment, or Soul-sense.
