A Healing and Enlightening Activity

As an activity of the Church of Christ, Scientist, provided for in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, the Christian Science Reading Room has a vital, active mission in a community. Often referred to as the evidence of daily church activity, it reflects not only the members' understanding of "Church" as defined in the Glossary of Science and Health by our Leader, but also their exemplification of it in daily experience.

For instance, those who are charged with the position of librarian endeavor to express through that important office the spiritual qualities which will fulfill that office. These include spiritual dominion, an understanding heart, compassion, grace, which expresses a warm welcome, and a desire to be helpful to one's neighbor. A librarian, by expressing the Christ, Truth, reflects too the integrity and spiritual strength which help to maintain the purity of purpose of the Reading Room.

Furthermore, the office of librarian calls for a knowledge of the stock for sale, a deep appreciation of the healing, enlightening potential of its contents, and gratitude for the service which the lending library can render the people of a community as well as appreciation of the function of the study room.
