Christian Science has always...

Christian Science has always answered every question and met every need for me. I am grateful for Mrs. Eddy and the un-selfed love with which she labored to bestow on humanity her gift of a practical religion.

Through growth in Christian Science and activity in a branch church, I have been freed from debilitating spells of despair and discouragement.

Sometime ago I was told that because the nature of the work I was doing was to change, I would have to take a large cut in salary. But I could continue to draw my present salary until I found another position, if that was what I wanted to do. At first I was filled with fear, for it was said that to find the kind of work and the salary I wanted would be difficult.

However, I knew that man is ever in his right place in God's universe, and I refused to accept the suggestion that I could be displaced. Above all, I knew this was an opportunity to be blessed, an opportunity to prove the loving guidance of God.

Several passages from the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings dispelled the fear and assured me of God's guidance. In particular, I held to these words from Isaiah (45:13): "I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways." I was also encouraged by a sentence from Mrs. Eddy's Message to The Mother Church for 1902 which reads (p. 19), "A danger besets thy path?—a spiritual behest, in reversion, awaits you."

Resentment was overcome as I pondered the word "forgiveness" and a line in the Lord's Prayer, "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors" (Matt. 6:12). I realized that the heavy, unhappy resentment I felt was causeless self-punishment. Why should I punish myself? I had done no wrong. Resentment expressed a lack of trust in God. The need was to trust God, Love, more, and I had to express this trust b loving and forgiving those involved.

One noon I answered an employment agency advertisement for someone experienced in my field. The position had been filled, but the counselor agreed, with no encouragement, to call me if an opening occurred.

Early the next morning she called to say a position had just opened. After a very short interview, I was hired at the same salary I was then making. Eight months earlier I had searched unsuccessfully for a position of this type, which utilized my training and experience. Only a week had passed since I had heard of the change to be made in my present work.

Christian Science has guided me not only to satisfying work, but also to a fuller sense of home and companionship, to a more progressive and a happier life.

I am ever more grateful for membership in The Mother Church and for class instruction. I echo these words from "Christ My Refuge" by Mrs. Eddy (Poems, p. 13):

My prayer, some daily good to do
To Thine, for Thee;
An offering pure of Love, whereto
God leadeth me.
