THE CHRISTLY TOUCH
This
was no weak-kneed faith. His trust in good
Rode on his ringing words. The multitude.
Seeking the loaves and fishes, roused and stirred
Beneath the impact of the Master's word.
The love which stemmed from out his heart's deep peace.
Flowering, brought the waiting throng's release
From hunger of the body and the mind.
How rare his understanding, and how kind!
And yet he could be stern. Those same loved hands.
So often raised to bless, had fashioned strands
To scourge. In such contrasting ways as these
Does Truth bring stubborn mankind to its knees.
Dear Father, as we strive for mercy's art
To reach both dogged will and contrite heart,
O wilt Thou to our listening sense reveal
The Christly way to cleanse—to wake—to heal!
