Early in my experience I had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School, and I studied Science for some years. However, I married a non-Christian Scientist and accepted medical help when our babies were born. Afterward I drifted into a mixture of Christian Science and medicine. I know now that this never results in healing, because I have read many times in the Bible (Matt. 6:24): "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

For sixteen or more years I suffered from what X-ray pictures revealed to be hereditary organic malformations. After five operations of one nature or another, I was simply quieted and told that there was no hope of my recovery unless I submitted to a certain operation which sounded very frightening to me. I refused the operation when my brother and his wife visited me about this time and recommended that I call a Christian Science practitioner for help. I awoke to the fact that God does provide for His children health, happiness, right activity, and freedom.

The practitioner assured me of God's loving care, and during two weeks of study I became spiritually aware of myself as the idea of Truth and Love, not as an imperfect, material structure. An understanding of the divine substance of Spirit replaced my material beliefs, and I was formed anew. I was completely free from pain and thoroughly healed. I took an extended trip with my family and enjoyed every activity freely.
