NEIGHBORLINESS
Luke 10:25-37
A certain
man went down, the Master said,
To Jericho from high Jerusalem,
(From conscious harmony to senses' realm?)
And in that state was set upon by thieves—
By false beliefs. No help was there from pride;
Ecelesiastieism passed him by.
Humility and love—that strength divine—
Came where he was in thought, and poured the balm
Of friendliness, compassion, gentleness.
Do pride and cold formality obscure
From us the troubled thought's great need of good?
Or do we care enough to feel the call.
Pour in the oil and wine of unselfed love,
Of tenderness, of wisdom—so restore
The troubled one with Christlike, healing touch?
