A College Student Writes

"Work out your own salvation"

Being born of Christian Science parents does not, in itself, make one a good Christian Scientist. Being around active Christian Scientists does not mean that one is also a practicing Christian Scientist. Judas had the grand opportunity of being near Jesus. What revealing healings Thomas must have witnessed! Yet Judas betrayed Jesus; Thomas doubted the resurrection of the Saviour!

Paul says, "Work out your own salvation" (Phil. 2:12). Others can show us the way, but only we can walk that way. Many students who are Christian Scientists and who enter college find their faith suddenly challenged. Yes, the devil would have us be a Judas or a doubting Thomas.

The devil, or evil, would have us believe that we can't get out of error's grasp; that there is so much pressure that we don't have time to use our knowledge of perfect God and perfect man; that we don't have enough understanding to heal. But no matter how small, understanding is understanding. Thus, we must use our understanding of divine Mind, be it infant or mature.
