When we were expecting our...

When we were expecting our second child, before I knew anything of Christian Science, I went to a doctor for a physical examination. He said that within five days the baby would be born prematurely. With this disturbing prediction I left the doctor's office and went to a friend who was a Christian Scientist. I spoke of the problem, and as I was leaving she gave me a copy of a Christian Science lecture and a number of issues of the Sentinel.

Reading the Sentinels was like finding a treasure, because what they contained was so satisfying to me—a promise that God was with me every step of the way. I forgot about the five days and dismissed from my thinking the doctor's verdict. I was uplifted and peaceful, living in a new world of thought, confident that all was well, for God was governing all action. This healing thought was my protection, and all discord vanished. My body responded to my harmonious thought.

Some months later a kidney ailment developed. But I found in one of the Sentinel articles a passage of Mrs. Eddy's from "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany." It reads (pp. 149, 150): "Remember, thou canst be brought into no condition, be it ever so severe, where Love has not been before thee and where its tender lesson is not awaiting thee. Therefore despair not nor murmur, for that which seeketh to save, to heal, and to deliver, will guide thee, if thou seekest this guidance."
