Having been reared in Christian Science...
Having been reared in Christian Science and having learned of its wonderful message from a devoted mother who lived its truths, I feel that my debt of gratitude requires that I testify to some of my healing experiences.
When I was a boy of ten, other members of my family who were not Christian Scientists called in the kindly family doctor to diagnose a knee wound. He said it was an advanced condition of blood poisoning. I was then very weak and was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment. The surgeons operated; but they expressed their belief that I could not live.
Several days later the medical opinion changed, but the doctors said I must submit to amputation of the limb if I were to live. My mother refused this; and she was then told that if by any miracle I lived, I would be a cripple all my life. After two weeks I was dismissed from the hospital at my mother's request, and a Christian Science practitioner gave me treatment. Because my father was not a Scientist, the family doctor was retained to dress the wounds only. He did not give me any medication.
