Christian Science was first...

Christian Science was first brought to our home through the periodicals. I had been searching through the attic, as young boys will, when I uncovered a pile of old issues of The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel. Little did I realize what a treasure I had found! My mother became interested in Christian Science through reading these periodicals, and shortly afterward she began to attend Christian Science church services and I to attend the Sunday School.

Two weeks after my introduction to the Sunday School, I fell off a four-story roof onto a two-story roof. The only truths I knew were those found in "the scientific statement of being," given on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook by Mrs. Eddy. My Sunday School teacher had said that it was one of the most powerful statements of truth ever written, and because of this I had memorized it.

As I lay on my back on the roof, I repeated its truths over and over until my thought was free from fear. The statement assures us that "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness." I got up, climbed down the fire escape, and went home.
