I began the study of Christian Science because of a stomach ailment which defied medical treatment. My healing in Science was complete but slow, because there was much error in my thinking that needed to be eradicated.

"And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was" (John 17: 5). The inspiration from this verse from the Bible resulted in a healing of fear of being alone. From childhood, I had had such a fear, and during later years I was very much afraid of being alone at night. It had not occurred to me to work out the problem in Science until I was left without companionship. I called a Christian Science practitioner, and she quoted the above verse from the Scriptures during our conversation. My healing of fear was instantaneous.

At one time I had spent a difficult day because of a cold. That evening, during a study of the weekly Bible Lesson, provided for in the Christian Science Quarterly, I pondered the following statements from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 207): "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause." The healing of the cold took place during the study of this particular citation from the lesson.
