I was brought up in an orthodox...

I was brought up in an orthodox church and remained a member till after I was confirmed. But the teachings failed to satisfy me, and I turned to Christian Science. About a year later I became ill with a painful condition which might be termed muscular rheumatism and which affected the muscles in my back and in my legs. I put into practice what little I knew of Science, and I also had help from a practitioner, but the trouble did not yield.

Finally I had to go to bed, and after a few weeks a friend, a Christian Scientist, came to see me. She said it was possible that I was struggling too hard. What she wanted me to see was that it was my thinking, and not really a condition of matter, which needed to be healed. I had been under the impression that it was the cold, damp weather that was responsible for the difficulty; now I saw that it was not the weather, but what I thought about the weather. I was soon healed.

About a year later this same difficulty tried to take hold of me again, but encouraged by my former healing and the realization that harmony is the only reality, I was healed that same day.
