Church Dedications
Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.
The Worthing Gazette
Worthing, Sussex, England (Second Church).
Now free from debt. Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Worthing, at 117 Grand Avenue, will be dedicated on Sunday. Services will be held at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 6.30 p.m.
The project was begun in 19:58 by a small group of local people and meetings were at first held in the home of a member of the group.
In 1939, when the group was recognised as a Christian Science Society, land was acquired in Grand-avenue and services were held in a small bungalow on it.
On the out-break of war, work on plans for building the new church edifice and Sunday School were suspended but were resumed in 1946. The Sunday School was finally completed in 1951, when it was used for services.
Seven years later, when the balance of the cost of the Sunday School had been paid, work began on the main building. On June 1, 1959, the foundations were dug, and the first service in the building... was held on February 7, 1960,—The Worthing Gazette (September 20, 1961).
