RADIO PROGRAM No. 362 - Finding Man's True and Sinless Selfhood
SPEAKER: Our guest today was freed from the bondage of alcohol, gambling, and debts. His life was transformed, and we feel his experience is a beacon for those who wonder how they can find release from the bondage and suffering of sin. I'd like you to meet Edward Johnson, of Chicago, Illinois.
MR. JOHNSON: My way of living for many years was a way that I wasn't particularly proud of. I'm a railroad man, and for a long time I was a dining-car waiter. At the end of each run, I got to stopping for social drinks with friends; or if we were waiting to go out on a run, and the start was delayed. I would have to go out and get a drink. As a result I never made the run.
It got to the point where one drink made me want to get all I could get, but I never drank on duty. After having been a dependable railroad man for years, I became unreliable because I wouldn't be able to take assignments at the last moment, or I would walk off a job. I lost opportunities for promotion due to liquor, and I began spending too much money and getting home without money that was needed to pay bills. I caught the gambling fever, and I was never satisfied unless I was gambling: and this led to borrowing and to more debts.
