When I was a child, I had many ailments, and my parents, wanting to do all they possibly could for me, took me to different physicians. Over a period of several years previous to and after my marriage, I was an invalid. I had submitted to thirteen major operations without benefit. Then uremic poisoning set in, and the physician and several others gave me up, saying that there was no hope for me. One of them came to our home and said he would like to send me to the hospital to keep me out of pain. Later I learned from my husband that the physician had said I had but three days to live.

I made my decision, saying that I would not return to the hospital because I felt that if I were going to pass on, I should like to pass on at home. I told the physician that I was going to rely completely on God. He said, "Why, my dear, that is all you can possibly do, for you are beyond any medical help."

That same day a neighbor came to our home and said that if I was really ready to rely completely on God, I could be healed in Christian Science. I assured her that I certainly was ready, but I asked her how I could be healed since I knew nothing whatever of Christian Science. She said she had been healed of cancer by just reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Then she told me that Christian Science teaches one how to pray aright, and I truly believed her.
