Because my parents were students of Christian Science, I did not have to work out of faith in matter or in medical theories. I can never thank God enough for this and for the many healings that my five children and I have had.

Many years ago I was healed of a severe burn. I was preparing dinner for my family and had started to pour boiling grease from a frying pan into a glass jar half full of cold grease. The glass broke, and the boiling grease spilled over the entire palm of my hand. The pain was intense; so I wrapped a towel around the hand, stepped into another room, and closed the door. I reversed every suggestion of error with an affirmation of truth as vigorously as I knew how. In about twenty minutes I was so free that I went back to preparing dinner. There was only a slight redness, which disappeared the next day.

Since childhood I had been periodically subject to laryngitis, and several years after my marriage I had an attack of the condition. I could hardly speak above a whisper. My sister-in-law telephoned me, and her statement that I did not sound like myself made me realize that this condition was no part of my real being. I held so thoroughly to that truth that the condition was healed, and I have never again had laryngitis.
