TRUE FREEDOM

Augustine is reported to have said, "He that is good is free, though he be a slave; and he that is evil is a slave, though he be a king." To be good, to be free, we must learn to think rightly, to know God as the only Mind of man. Christian Science enables us to do this. Mary Baker Eddy says (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 227): "Citizens of the world, accept the 'glorious liberty of the children of God,' and be free! This is your divine right." Freedom is our heritage as the sons and daughters of God. Freedom from what? Freedom from the belief that evil exists. We are free through Science to live triumphantly.

Our true liberty comes as we learn that God is Love and that man as Love's reflection is always as free from error as God, Love, is. Many in the world today feel that freedom has been taken from them through intolerance, aggression, oppression. These evils may seem to take away an outward sense of freedom for a time, but as long as men can pray, freedom is never lost. Consecrated, intelligent prayer, which includes denying error and affirming the truth as taught in Christian Science, brings the elements of liberty into one's present experience.

Man reflects what God is; consequently the God-given ability of mankind to know the truth and to express Love can never be taken away. The demonstration of the truth in our lives brings spiritual freedom. We can always prove that man reflects limitless Life, fetterless Mind, boundless Truth, infinite Love.
