"How beautiful upon the mountains...
"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!" This beautiful verse from the Bible (Isa. 52:7 ) always reminds me of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and the great gift of Christian Science which she gave to the world. How grateful I am for the good tidings she published in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," for the Church she founded, and for the peace, joy, comfort, and good she has made available to all of us who seek the truth.
Christian Science has done so much for me through the years that I feel I must now do something for the Cause and let others know a little of how much it has blessed me. The first demonstration of Truth achieved by my own efforts was a wonderful experience for me. One morning I slipped on the floor, spilling boiling water on one arm. While the water was still pouring from the kettle and before I could right myself, I began saying aloud "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468 ). The realization of this great truth was so clear to me that I had no sense of fear or pain. The demonstration of God's care was instantaneous, and there were no aftereffects of blisters, redness, or pain. I truly felt as though I had touched the hem of Truth's garment that day.
Since I became interested in Christian Science, over thirty years ago, I have had many proofs of God's omnipotence. The most important of these were the healings of acute appendicitis, tuberculosis, heart trouble, influenza, mumps, and measles. The smoking habit too was overcome. Each healing helped me to a fuller understanding of the all-power of God, good.
I should like to tell of an incident where mental surgery was experienced. A growth had developed in my side, and one day I ran into the sharp corner of a desk, apparently affecting the growth. I was in great pain, and the condition was most alarming. When I went to see a practitioner I was bowed down with fear and pain, so unhappy and miserable. This kind person listened to me calmly and compassionately. Then he quietly asked me a simple question: "Do you believe that God is able to help you?" Then and there I dropped my burden of fear and pain, self-pity and misery. He talked with me a while longer, and my thought was so uplifted that when I left I was able to walk upright and free. Although it was several weeks before the growth was eliminated, I never feared it again. I trusted in God's care. Mrs. Eddy tells us (Science and Health, p. 228 ): "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God."
I should like to express gratitude for our faithful, kind practitioners, who give of their time and understanding so generously to help us on our journey from sense to Soul. I am grateful for the opportunity of serving our Cause in a branch church, for class instruction and annual association meetings, and for all the activities of The Mother Church and the branch churches. —(Mrs.) Elizabeth M.
