EMERGENCE
I wandered
in a night dream
distraught—held by some vague,
intangible power,
when suddenly I awoke.
I sought to return to the dream
to reason a way of escape,
when lo! the answer came:
I am awake!
Why return to the night dream?
I wandered in a daydream
returning to some broken
thread of the past,
some half-finished dream
of earthly happiness.
I sought to catch the broken threads
and weave them into some pattern intricate,
but it became a tangled web.
And then I felt the touch of angel
wings
and heard these words:
Awake! Awake!
from the Adam-dream,
the dream of life in matter,
and thus behold
God's holy plan,
His perfect man,
upright, complete,
and free!
