FINDING HEALTH AND HARMONY

In the Bible, in both the Old and the New Testament, we discover instances when men and women, through an absolute faith in God, Spirit, overcame what appeared to be insurmountable difficulties and experienced health and well-being. Today there are many earnest students of the Bible who are striving to solve their problems through faith in God, but who, dividing their allegiance between matter and Spirit, turn to medical practice and material means in their search for health and harmony. They try all manner of material means without lasting success. Surely, the very failure to gain from matter what they so eagerly seek points to the fact that they have been looking in the wrong direction, for health and harmony are not to be found in matter, but in Spirit.

It was Mary Baker Eddy who revealed to the world the substance and reality of Spirit and showed her followers how through absolute faith in God, through recognition of and obedience to His spiritual law of Love, they can break the despotic claims of matter and material law and demonstrate freedom in both body and outlook.

Through Christian Science we learn that it is natural and right that health and harmony should be manifested in our lives. Its primary purpose, however, is not to make a sick or suffering body well, but to demonstrate man's spiritual individuality. If it were true that sickness and disease were physical or bodily conditions, then it would seem perfectly logical to try to bring about a change through material means. But the fact is that bodily and physical ills are mental, and therefore it is out of thought that the belief of disease and discord has to be ruled. The all-important fact is that since man is God's idea, or reflection, he is Godlike, spiritual, and perfect; therefore he is untouched by sickness and all other untoward conditions.
