That the Passer-By May Read

A man inquired about the copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'" by Mary Baker Eddy which was on display in our window. He thanked the librarian for the information and went out. Later he returned to ask if he could purchase a copy of The Christian Science Journal, which was also in the window. He expressed gratitude for the window displays and told the librarian he had received a great deal of good from reading" them. When he said he would like to own a copy of Science and Health but felt he could not afford it just then, he was immediately told of the facilities of our lending library. He borrowed the textbook and at the end of two weeks returned it and bought a copy. This man reads at every window display.

After we had worked with Mrs. Eddy's statement of the purpose of the Heralds, "to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353), a wider concept of all the translations prompted use of Heralds and translations in window displays. The day we placed the Spanish Science and Health in a display a woman unknown to the librarian came in and asked to see it. She took it into the study room and read for about an hour, then brought it to the counter and purchased it.
