Claims "right to expect results" and is freed of self-condemnation

It is my hope that my testimony to the power of God through Christian Science will bring out an instructive point which may prove helpful to others.

Early in my study of Christian Science I had much to meet in the argument of self-condemnation. Whenever I failed to live up to its high standard, I was plagued with discouragement and despair. This was especially true of my attempts to overcome the smoking habit. I was not healed of this habit until I had first seen the lie of self-condemnation for what it was.

During the early part of the recent war I was working in a small aircraft plant in southern California which was quite inaccessible save by automobile, and I depended on a co-worker for transportation. As we started for home one evening, later than usual, my companion discovered that his car keys were missing. We carefully searched all the usual places, poking about under the desks, emptying pockets, drawers, and so on. As my friend's irritation increased, I was trying to turn away from the sense of loss or displacement to the only source of help, as we learn to do in Science.
