THE SIMPLE TRUTH

In the processes of human reason, analysis, and evaluation, one of the pitfalls regarded as definitely to be avoided is oversimplification. Not so in the realm of the real, where spiritual sense discerns all truth. The surest separator of fact from fable, of true spiritual perception from false material sense, is the rule of simplicity based on the understanding that there is one God, who is good, and one good creation reflecting God's nature perfectly.

One of the many arresting statements made by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, on this point is (The First Church of Christ. Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 119): "It is convenient for history to record limitations and to regard evil as real, but it is impossible in Science to believe this, or on such a basis to demonstrate the divine Principle of that which is real, harmonious, and eternal—that which is based on one infinite God, and man, His idea, image, and likeness."

From the foundational fact that perfect Mind, divine Spirit, is the one and only cause, an infallible and uncomplicated conclusion is deduced. It is simply that the effect of that cause, or creator, is perfect spiritual idea. For Mind conceives, or creates, ideas, and ideas are necessarily in the nature of the Mind which conceives them. Such conception of Mind is, as that marvelous first chapter of Genesis describes it, the image and likeness of its Maker. And this image and likeness is man, as the Bible says—man, or spiritual idea, characterized by divine Spirit as that by which Spirit, God, expresses Himself, His substance, His presence, His power, His law.
