Oakland, California (Fifth Church).
Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Oakland, located at Ninetieth Avenue and Holly Street, was dedicated at services in the afternoon and evening on December 5, 1948.
Christian Science services were first conducted in the Elmhurst area in the year 1908 in the homes of those who were interested. A small group of Scientists organized in 1909 what later became a society and conducted services in the Odd Fellows Hall, East Fourteenth Street and Ninety-second Avenue.
The society was recognized as Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, Oakland, in September, 1912, and a lot was purchased. The present church edifice was erected in 1924. First services were held in the church auditorium in 1925.
