Home and employment found through taking stand for Principle

"As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, incorporates this statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 497) as the first tenet of Christian Science. In this book she reveals the true nature of God and man as it is logically presented in "the inspired Word of the Bible." For that revelation I am most deeply grateful.

The search for a practical religion which would demonstrate the all-power of good first led me to Christian Science. I had known of it for years without realizing its true nature.

It seemed as though the very foundations of my life were swept away when I left a land that was to suffer great tribulation, to go to another country. Here, for one year, I worked under most discordant conditions. Persistent mental work regarding the true nature of man, of employment, and of home was necessary. During this troubled period a Christian Science branch church was my haven. Finally I had to make a firm stand for Principle, which involved loss of my employment. Within a few weeks, during which I was spared all fear of the future, I had a happy home and completely harmonious employment.

During the next few years I was instantaneously healed of a recurrent form of dysentery. Antrum trouble, which my dentist informed me usually became steadily worse, was completely healed. I have been healed of influenza, pleurisy, and incipient pneumonia by holding steadfastly to the knowledge of God. A damaged rib, which appeared to be broken, was restored through the mental surgery of Christian Science, and at the same time a displacement in the chest disappeared. Many times the help of practitioners and friends was sought, and it was always lovingly given.

My small son has had three remarkable healings through Science. When he was two years of age, his legs were bowed. Within six months, during which he was allowed to walk in the normal way, his legs became so strong and straight as to cause this comment from a stranger: "What beautiful legs that child has!" On another occasion he fell on his head, which momentarily doubled underneath his body, and then he lay quite still. As soon as my fear had been overcome, he was completely restored. One Sunday morning the ends of three of his fingers were trapped between a door and a door jamb, and the door was completely shut. The immediate realization that spiritually a door may indicate the idea of liberty and opportunity and that the material conception of fingers was unreal freed him from harm, and he was able to go to Sunday School as usual, with his fingers covered from sight. The next morning all that could be seen were three thin red marks below the base of the nails, and these marks soon disappeared.

I have found Christian Science to be invaluable in my own life, in my home, and in my business. It meets every need practically and properly when faithfully applied, and gently guides down the pathway of service, blessing one as it blesses all.

I am profoundly grateful for the loving care with which our Leader founded Christian Science after she discovered it. Following in the footsteps of the Master, Christ Jesus, she marked out the way with these two imperishable monuments, Science and Health and the Manual of The Mother Church, and provided for us three special blessings, Mother Church membership, branch church membership, and class instruction, which cannot be valued too much by those who have been privileged to receive them.— Laurence Hinds, Penarth, Glamorganshire, Wales.
