CAN YE NOT WATCH?

Awake! Awake! The hour is late;
     Can ye not watch?
The hosts of death in ambush wait;
     Arise and watch!
Look up! Behold, the path is bright
With angels waiting through the night
To guide you into Truth's clear light,
     If you but watch.

The flesh is weak, but Spirit strong
     To aid your watch;
And Truth annuls the power of wrong
     For those who watch.
Sleep dulls men's eyes, at what a price!
Think of your Saviour's sacrifice;
Pray lest your fears deny him thrice.
     Pray and watch.

One little hour, how short a time
     To watch with him!
How sweet the vigil, how sublime
     To watch with him!
"Put up thy sword," the Saviour saith:
Your eyes to Love he openeth,
And Love is Life; there is no death
     For those who watch.
