Preparing for the Lecture

When Christ reigns, and not till then, will the world have rest." A spiritually enlightened observer looking today on the United Nations endeavoring to find solutions to the problems of a war stricken world may well feel impelled to re-echo these words by John Robinson.

Today the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, is proclaiming the kingdom of heaven, the reign of Christ, as revealed in its completeness through Mary Baker Eddy's discovery of Christian Science. How important that students of this Science should prayerfully support this activity of The Mother Church, which has so important a part to play in bringing to light to all mankind universal salvation and peace!

When a Christian Science lecture is to be given in a community, it may be profitable for each member of the branch church sponsoring the lecture to ask himself, "What is the true purpose of this lecture?" One's ability correctly to answer this question enables him to do proper work for the lecture. Of course, the occasion will be thought of by the church member as an opportunity to give as well as to get something. The success of the lecture will to a large degree be determined by the adequacy and consecration of the metaphysical preparatory work. Oh, that our work may be such that men will say, as of old (Luke 5:17), "The power of the Lord was present to heal them"!
