Only twenty-four hours after...

Only twenty-four hours after my first visit to a Christian Science practitioner almost fourteen years ago, my life took a decided change for the better. I had been undecided which of two divergent roads to take in molding my future. Neither one seemed especially desirable. The practitioner discerned that I was completely honest in my desire to do right, and proceeded to give me a treatment.

That night an unexpectedly happy development made it unnecessary to waver with doubt any longer about what decision to make, and the next day I was on a train crossing the continent. I realized that I had had immediate response to my first call for help in Christian Science. From that day on I have continued to study and have been greatly blessed. I could not at first fully understand or accept all that was contained in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but realized that I was benefited by what I could understand, and so I persisted until doubt disappeared.

My first physical healing accomplished without the aid of a practitioner was of a severe burn on the palm of my right hand, caused by holding the full weight of an iron skillet in which meat had been cooking in the oven for about two hours. The pad with which I started to grasp it slipped just as I took its weight. My husband was very understanding and left me to work it out after I refused the material remedies he lovingly suggested. When he returned from the garden a few moments later I was free from pain, and soon all discoloration had vanished. I remember using "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health, with gratitude and understanding. I was also healed of habitual hiccoughs through realizing the truth contained in that statement.
