I should like to express my gratitude...
I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science. For a long while it has meant everything to me. Although I had known of it for some time, I began really to study it eighteen years ago. Since that time it has been my only help in working out my problems, which have been many. It has been an incalculable blessing in helping me bring up my children. They have had many healings. At times I have had to call for help from a practitioner, and at other times we have worked problems out ourselves through proving our conscious sonship with God. Some healings have not been quick, but the healing has always come, and there has been a step, be it ever so small, in regeneration.
I am thankful for our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I have been healed many times simply by reading the book. It has made the Bible a new and most interesting book to me. I am also grateful for Mrs. Eddy's other writings and for the literature, especially for the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. I am deeply appreciative of our practitioners, who are so willing to help us when we need it, and grateful also for our Leader's wisdom in establishing this branch of work in the Christian Science movement.
I should like to tell of a healing that I experienced about two years ago. I had what seemed to be a severe catch in the lower part of my back. For two weeks it was very painful. I read the Lesson every day and did other helpful reading and kept up fairly well with my household duties. My back would get better and then worse. Finally I called a practitioner for help and got better, but not entirely well. One afternoon I went to town on business. When I got there I could hardly put one foot before the other because of the severe pain in my back, so I called the practitioner and returned home. I sat down on the side of my bed, and the pain literally pulled me back to a reclining position. I lay in this position without moving my body at all for four nights and three and a half days, although I could turn my head and move my arms. The practitioner was called the first night and every day until I got over the trouble.
