I am glad of this opportunity to testify that Christian Science has indeed proved itself to be the Comforter which Jesus promised (John 14:16): "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever." While serving with the Canadian Army in England during some of the recent war years, I found that Christian Science and its branch churches, Reading Rooms, and Wartime Activities were my salvation.

Although I had been privileged to receive ten years' instruction in a Christian Science Sunday School, I had not realized that amunsements or any personal ability to find happiness and success cannot be substituted for a practical understanding of God's ever-present and so ever-available comfort, guidance, and protection as revealed through Christian Science. Not having studied our precious books or having had contact with a church for about three years, I found myself in an Army camp thousands of miles from home and thoroughly depressed mentally, with an accepted mental picture of a terrible war, very undesirable living conditions, blacked-out nights, and so on.

At this point I received a parcel from a branch church which contained, along with knitted garments and food, a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel. Great was my joy to read beautiful articles which explained scientifically that in reality there is no war or discord of any nature; that man is spiritual, the image and likeness of God, dwelling forever in eternal peace, harmony, and beauty. Any evidence contrary to this fact is merely a fabulous dream, a false mental picture which is no part of real being. Our beloved Leader clearly expresses this in her textbook, Science and Health (p. 14), where she writes, "Entirely separate from the belief and dream of material living, is the Life divine, revealing spiritual understanding and the consciousness of man's dominion over the whole earth."
