Overcoming Envy and Jealousy

For the help and comfort of mankind, Christian Science provides the spiritually scientific means whereby envy and jealousy may be overcome and destroyed in human consciousness.

Students of this Science learn that the so-called material universe is but an inversion of the real, spiritual universe created by God, Spirit, and that in order to see everything in its true character one should reverse the material picture. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, explains this process in the following words (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 60, 61): "Every material belief hints the existence of spiritual reality; and if mortals are instructed in spiritual things, it will be seen that material belief, in all its manifestations, reversed, will be found the type and representative of verities priceless, eternal, and just at hand."

What, then, are the "verities priceless, eternal, and just at hand" which should be apprehended if one would destroy envy and jealousy? Obviously the counterfacts of the beliefs of inferiority, selfishness, malice, dissatisfaction, apathy, laziness, incompleteness, and lack of good, which result in envy and jealousy, are the qualities of intelligence, unselfishness, love, satisfaction, activity, energy, completeness, assurance of good, which ultimate in brotherhood and peace.
