In giving a testimony I think of the many healings I have witnessed and the healings I have myself experienced through some little knowledge of Christian Science; and I should be unspeakably grateful, even if I had not experienced the healing power of Christian Science, for the understanding which it gives of the Bible as a constructive, helpful guide in my everyday thoughts and actions. Mary Baker Eddy will always hold a special place of love and gratitude in my thoughts for having given her book Science and Health to the world so that all may learn something of the spiritual interpretation of the Bible.
Over sixteen years ago I visited a woman whom I had never met before, and asked for treatment for my hand, which had been crippled as the result of rheumatism. She sent me away with such a sense of the love of God that by the time I reached the house where I was then living, nine miles away, my hand was healed. Since then, through my study and application of Christian Science, God has been my only physician, and Mind my only medicine.
For seven years I lived in Kenya Colony, Africa. I was taken ill one Saturday with sunstroke, and on Sunday morning was apparently very ill. A friend cabled to a practitioner for help, and I was at work on Monday morning as usual. On two other occasions I was ill and needed urgent help, and in both cases I was quickly healed through Christian Science treatment.
