In the spring of 1915 I became interested in Christian Science through curiosity. The doctrine presented was so different from that of the church to which I belonged that it intrigued me to such an extent I wanted to learn more about it. I was then living in a very small town where there was only one Christian Scientist, a man, whose declaration of the truth had aroused my interest. Through him I bought a copy of Science and Health and began to study it diligently.
I was greatly in need of physical healing, as I had been in very poor health practically all my life, had undergone two operations, and was then under the constant treatment of a physician. After some weeks of reading the book, I decided to try the healing efficacy of Christian Science, and secured the name of a practitioner in a distant town, to whom I wrote asking for treatment. After some weeks I was much improved. The practitioner moved to a city in a distant state, and I moved to another small town where there were no known Christian Scientists; and as I had very little understanding of the truth, I again sought healing through medicine. However, the gleam of Truth that had reached me would not let me rest in the use of material remedies, and during the influenza epidemic of 1918, I took my stand for Christian Science. Since then I have relied wholly upon it for every need, and it has never failed me.
Severe attacks of sore throat and bronchitis, which were claimed to be inherited, acute indigestion, influenza, fever, periodic attacks of malaria, and headaches that had tormented me for years have all been healed. I have also been healed of sorrow and a sense of loss at the time of the passing on of both parents. Christian Science meant more than ever during these experiences.
