Truth Always Triumphant
CHRIST JESUS' recognition of the fact that God is immutable in nature and irresistible in expression led him to say with confident assurance, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." No one knew better than he the intensity of the hatred and opposition which faced his teaching and his verifying works, but he was ever undaunted and undismayed because he continually and consistently identified himself, his message, and his mission with God. Because he knew that nothing could mar the perfection of God, it was clear to Jesus that nothing could destroy the Christ, the manifestation of divine Love, which was discerned and demonstrated so perfectly and completely by the Master that he thereby earned the title of Christ Jesus.
Correlative to his declaration of the immortality of his words is his prophetic promise of the coming of the Comforter, "the Spirit of truth." Speaking of the Comforter, Jesus said, "He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." In the fullness of time the Comforter was brought to mankind through the spiritual revelation which came to Mary Baker Eddy, and which she has given to the world in her inspired writings, chief of which is "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Therein she writes with the same spiritual authority which impelled Christ Jesus (p. 110): "No human pen nor tongue taught me the Science contained in this book, Science and Health; and neither tongue nor pen can overthrow it. This book may be distorted by shallow criticism or by careless or malicious students, and its ideas may be temporarily abused and misrepresented; but the Science and truth therein will forever remain to be discerned and demonstrated."
The Bible was Mrs. Eddy's sole guide in her spiritual discovery, the words and example of Christ Jesus especially serving to illumine her pathway Godward. In considerign the experiences of the great Exemplar, Mrs. Eddy saw that the vengeance, cruelty, and malice which were inflicted on Jesus were called forth by his spiritual life, teachings, and works, but were aimed at the Christ, or Truth, which rebuked the material, sensual, and sinful beliefs of his persecutors. This led Mrs. Eddy to foresee and foretell the opposition which would greet the active and progressive demonstration of Christian Science.
