I have experienced many blessings since coming into Christian Science. My first healing was a revelation to me. I had been in a hospital for nine weeks, suffering from internal injuries received in a serious accident. Though under the care of five of the best physicians in Chicago, I did not improve. One day, through one of these physicians, I met a lady who was a Christian Scientist. She gave me a treatment, and I was instantaneously healed. This was a proof that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I then realized that I had found the truth of which Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I was indeed free, and felt just as though I had taken off an old garment and put on a new one. I then knew what Paul meant when he said, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind."

After this healing I had a great desire to understand this wonderful truth, so that I might be able to help others as I had been helped. I had been a sincere student of the Bible since early childhood; therefore I had the letter, but not the spiritual understanding. I purchased "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through continued faithful study I have found that God is my Father and Mother. Through the application of this truth I was able to overcome an ailment supposed to be inherited and through which I had lost both my sister and my mother, who did not know of Christian Science. When this difficulty was manifested in me I was for two days and two nights in "the valley of the shadow of death." The evening of the second day the Comforter came to me through the passage in Science and Health (p. 14), "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual, — neither in nor of matter, — and the body will then utter no complaints." I suddenly found myself healed, and now know the healing is permanent.

A few years later, through the application of the same truth, I was healed of typhus fever. At that time several other members of the household had the same trouble and were under the care of a physician. We were in a section of the South where Christian Science was unknown at that time, so I had to depend absolutely on my own understanding of God, knowing that my body was controlled by spiritual Life, Truth, and Love. The third day I was up and well, with no after effects. For this demonstration I was doubly grateful, for I was able to prove to other members of the household what God's law, rightly applied as taught in Christian Science, could do, and was in turn able to help those who were willing to accept this truth.
