We are sure you will allow us space in your columns to correct a misleading statement appearing in a recent issue of the Herald under the heading: "Your Health Question and Its Answer." The writer of this statement makes the unqualified assertion that Christian Scientists do use chiropractic adjustment; he further attempts to show that Mrs. Eddy sanctioned such procedure by quoting from page 401 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the words: "Until the advancing age admits the efficacy and supremacy of Mind, it is better for Christian Scientists to leave surgery and the adjustment of broken bones and dislocations to the fingers of a surgeon." But the quotation is incomplete. Its context gives quite another impression. In the next sentence, Mrs. Eddy continues: "Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon, but surgery is the branch of its healing which will be last acknowledged. However, it is but just to say that the author has already in her possession well-authenticated records of the cure, by herself and her students through mental surgery alone, of broken bones, dislocated joints, and spinal vertebrae." The world-wide growth of the Christian Science movement is living evidence that this age is admitting "the efficacy and supremacy of Mind;" and the grateful testimony of thousands, who have thus been cured, is hourly proving that "Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon."
