I am sincerely grateful for the many blessings Christian Science...
I am sincerely grateful for the many blessings Christian Science has brought to us. I can honestly say it has met our every need. We have had many healings, and I wish to tell of one that has meant much to me.
When I was very young in the study of Christian Science, shortly after we had had a wonderful demonstration at the birth of our eldest boy, I experienced an extreme fear of death. I was confused and bewildered with terror. At times I feared for my reason, for in this dazed condition I would often do things I had no remembrance of I had many Christian Science treatments, both present and absent, which were lovingly given. While I would recover my peace and be helped each time treatment was given, still the condition was not completely healed. As the months passed, however, I could see an improvement. "As the children of Israel were guided triumphantly through the Red Sea, the dark ebbing and flowing tides of human fear" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 566), so was I, although it was fully five years before I was able to master these suggestions for myself. I am so grateful for this slow healing, for I was forced to study and strive for an understanding of the truth as I would never have done otherwise. During this time I also memorized and learned to love many of our hymns. At such times as I was not able to read or study I could sing, and I derived much comfort thereby.
The friendship of a loyal Christian Science practitioner has meant much to us. We have been helped through many trials and tribulations. There have been instantaneous healings of measles and mumps, as well as healings of earache, headache, kidney trouble, rheumatism, and many other difficulties. In Science and Health (p. 449) we find these words: "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth." We have proved this; for the truth gained from the daily study of our Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly eliminated all desire for tobacco in a member of our family. Another relative while at business coughted up what seemed to be a piece of decayed bone. For a moment there seemed to be slight anxiety; but my husband made a statement of truth which cleared the thought of this one, and he remembered that a number of years before he had swallowed what he thought was quite a large piece of bone. With the removal of this bone, an offensive breath and an irritating cough have entirely left him.
