The Bread of Life

While traveling in a car one day the writer noticed an advertisement on a passing omnibus, calling attention to pure food; and instantly thought was turned to the truth this might imply. Every efficient housekeeper takes care that her stores of food are kept replenished for the needs of her family, going through them occasionally to see that they are still pure and wholesome, and casting out whatever is unfit for use.

It is well that we take stock of what we are laying up in our mental storehouses, whether treasures of earth or treasures of heaven. It seems to take considerable exploration sometimes to find that we are cherishing false beliefs hidden away and often unsuspected.

On page 495 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, in answer to the question, "How can I progress most rapidly in the understanding of Christian Science?"we read, "Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit." Now, according to the dictionary, "to imbibe" means "to receive ... into the mind;" and as we gradually learn to eliminate material thinking, so shall there be more room left in our consciousness to receive and assimilate the truths of divine Science.
