When I began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...
When I began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, over seven years ago, I was very skeptical about it; in fact, I had silently criticized it, as well as my wife and boy, who had been studying it for three or four years. Immediately upon reading a few lines in the textbook, however, I realized that its teachings were wonderful; but I had to have proofs, and therefore I tried to apply it whenever a discordant condition arose, no matter in what form, and it never failed in a single instance, most results being instantaneous. This encouraged a continued interest; and as I grew in understanding I found that with each demonstration there came untold blessing, and many erroneous conditions of long standing were destroyed. There was also a doubting period; but the proofs were so great that I now trust God for everything, knowing that He governs all. When I give God credit for all the good that comes to me in business, I immediately see the wonderful results in increased orders. I have learned to leave all my finances with God, and His supply has been abundant.
The most recent physical healing occurred about a year ago. To human belief I was suffering from a severe attack in my back and spine, which compelled me to remain in bed for four days, unable to move without excruciating pain. With the loving help of a practitioner I was able to rise, and in a week or ten days was able to go to work; but I could not straighten myself out properly. At the end of three weeks I was entirely free from every ill effect.
During this trial I had to learn the lesson of patience, which has since been a great help to me. It also taught me to express more love for my fellow-man, even to do as Jesus said: "Resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right check, turn to him the other also." I have learned that evil is only erroneous thought.
