I often think of the time when Christian Science first came to me. I awoke one Sunday morning ill, irritable, and unhappy. I had long since lost interest in the church in which I had been brought up; and, although I still clung to the Bible, I never seemed to understand it or how to read it to receive its benefits.
On this particular Sunday morning I told my husband that I thought I would go out and walk in the sunlight. This proved to be a very significant remark, for I certainly did! I walked in the sunlight of Truth! My path led me directly past a Christian Science church, just as the congregation was dismissed. I stood on the opposite side of the street and watched the people curiously. They looked so happy and bright and interested that I crossed the street and went into the church by a side door. There I met some friends, who introduced me to others; and I was received so cordially and warmly that my heart expanded, and Love was "reflected in love," as Mrs. Eddy says on page 17 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It is needless to say I went home feeling a great deal better. I felt a strong desire to know what the people of that church knew; and, accordingly, I called a practitioner the first thing the next morning. A stomach and bowel trouble was healed in a few treatments; but the healing I am most grateful for was the healing of taking medicine. I was taking more than I was conscious of; and after one treatment in Christian Science I did not want medicine again.
Christian Science has created in me an interest in and a desire to be busy about the good things of life, which is, of course, our Father's business; and I am so grateful.
