Among the Churches

Current Notes

Grand Rapids, Mich. (Second Church).—Local Christian Scientists, at a meeting held recently, initiated steps for the formation of a new church body to be known as Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of Grand Rapids. A temporary organization was formed, as a necessary step preliminary to incorporation of the new church, officers elected, and announcement made of the first service. Temporary quarters for the new church have been engaged—the Ladies' Literary Club rooms. Services will be held there until a church edifice is built or more suitable quarters obtained.

Seattle, Wash. (Fifth Church).—Erected at a cost of twenty-three thousand dollars, Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, at 4709 Thirty-sixth Avenue South, near Alaska Street, in Rainier Valley, is completed and now in use. The church is of classical design, faced with volcanic tufa stone of light gray texture, and trimmed in a cream white. The stone is a Northwest product. The structure is a frame and masonry building, and covers a ground area of forty-six by one hundred feet. The auditorium is simply decorated in old ivory and rose gray tints, which blend harmoniously with the Doric pilasters spaced uniformly around the room and supporting the beam work of the ceiling. It has a seating capacity of about five hundred people. The Sunday school room has a capacity of about three hundred.
