Christian Science has done so much for me that I should...
Christian Science has done so much for me that I should like to relate my first experience of its wonderful healing. Until five years ago, I was as strong an opponent of Mrs. Eddy as any one could be. I looked upon Christian Scientists as somewhat wicked people; and I was exceedingly perturbed when my youngest daughter, who from early childhood had been constantly in the hands of doctors, told me that she intended to see a practitioner of Christian Science. I raised every sort of objection to this, and gave her a very hard time, hoping most sincerely that she would find that she had made a mistake. It seemed to me then to be such an unsympathetic religion,—no inquiries after her health encouraged, no medicine, no nursing, even when she appeared to be suffering in some way! After a time, however, not only I, but others, noticed a great difference in her for the better. She was happy; and her health had so wonderfully improved that I began to feel sure there was something in Christian Science after all.
One morning I awoke with a swelled and burning cheek, which I attributed to the bite of some insect, as many years previously I had been very ill with septic poisoning from that cause. I felt that I really could not go through the same experience again, and that it was the moment for me to try Christian Science. The practitioner who had done so much to help my daughter most kindly took me as her patient; and I shall never forget the first treatment, which destroyed all fear and made me confident of being cured. In about three days the swelling of cheeks and eyes had quite disappeared, and I was able to go out as usual. At the same time I was completely healed of a trouble of forty years' standing, for which I had taken medicine every night. I have had many other healings since, and I cannot be grateful enough to Mrs. Eddy for giving to the world this wonderful Science, which throws such light upon the Bible, raises one's thought towards the spiritual life, and overcomes all material ills.

It gives me great pleasure to verify my mother's testimony, and also to take this opportunity of telling something of what Christian Science has done for me. Before taking up the study of this teaching, I was always anxious and unhappy. I was very delicate, and scarcely knew what it was like to feel well. The doctor was a frequent visitor at our home on my account. The time came when he advised that I should be sent to a sanitarium, as he thought I was developing something very serious. Instead of that, however, I went to see a Christian Science practitioner; and at once I felt a sense of hope and confidence that I had never experienced before. I was given treatment; and my progress, though at first slow, was steady. Within a year, I was sufficiently strong to be able to undertake the duties of a policewoman in the Woman Police Service. My work kept me out in all weathers, at all hours of the day or night. I worked sometimes for twelve hours or more in a day, and at times I was seven or eight hours on my feet at a stretch; and I was constantly told how strong I must be. During this time, Christian Science was of untold value to me; and I know that without it I should never have been able to meet the many problems with which I was faced. I did this work for nearly four years; and only twice was it interrupted on account of my health. This seemed very wonderful; for, until the time when I first turned to Christian Science, I had been unable to undertake work of any kind, as I was so frequently laid up that I could never be depended upon.
I have had many healings. I was instantaneously healed of fallen insteps and of a very severe attack of rheumatism. I have also been instantaneously healed in times of accident. An attack of mumps was overcome within a week; and I have had many other proofs of the power of Truth in overcoming disease. I am more grateful than I can say for Christian Science, which has brought to me all that makes my life worth living; and I can never sufficiently express my gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for having revealed this wonderful truth to the world.
