My love for the Christian Science periodicals has grown...
My love for the Christian Science periodicals has grown all the stronger during these trying times, as they have gone forward amid difficulties which would have defeated mere human effort. I have often regretted that I did not seem able to contribute to our periodicals, and the thought has come to me that a testimony of gratitude would be contributing in a helpful way. Earnest study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, together with church attendance and Sunday school for the children have kept us in good health, and the prophecy of Isaiah, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee," is being fulfilled for me, in just the proportion that I give up all carnal desires and turn unreservedly to Principle. I am particularly grateful for the purification of the human sense of mother love. After many a struggle with fear, the baser elements have been eliminated, and a broader and less personal form has evolved.
We have had many healings in our family with the help of Christian Science practitioners, but I prize most highly the healing of defective eyesight which came to me through reading Science and Health. I had been a great reader and had worn glasses for reading since my school days, and had severe headaches if I did not do so. When I took up the study of Christian Science I gave up all other reading, for I wanted to lay off my glasses and I had faith that I could read Christian Science without suffering from headaches. This proved to be true and gradually my eyesight improved, and to-day I can read anything with perfect freedom. I am very grateful to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who was brave enough to stand alone with God, and has left us this inspiring example.
