I wish to express through the Sentinel my sincere gratitude...
I wish to express through the Sentinel my sincere gratitude for benefits received from reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, after a great many years of ill health. From the time I was three weeks old I was afflicted with scrofula and sore eyes, and later I had a felon on one of my eyes. Some time afterward I had fevers, an internal trouble, and lung trouble. Twice it was thought that I would never walk. When I began to read Science and Health I was afflicted with rheumatism, indigestion, blood poisoning, and swelling of the limbs. After reading the book for a few days the thought came to me that if Christian Scientists could get along without medicine, they had something I did not have and I wanted it, for I had taken medicine all my life. I could not close the book and I read every moment I could get, for the pages were illuminated. God became so near to me that I thought of little else.
Physical healing did not enter my thought for I had found the "pearl of great price." The meaning of many passages in the Bible which I had not understood was revealed to me, especially in Revelation. I found myself well and happy and my gratitude was greater than words can express, for I knew that the same healing is for all mankind. I am thankful to God for His great gift and so grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her untiring work. I am grateful for all her writings, for the literature and for the LessonSermons, which are truly daily manna. Just to know our loving Father, God, aright is to love Him, and to strive daily to obey His loving commands.
